So apparently a lot of people aren’t quite understanding the new update system, as a person who has been very critical of Mojang’s performance in recent years I gotta say, I think they’re getting back on the right track.
So how the new updates are going to work is 2 Minecraft Lives per year, and 4 “Drops”. Drops are seasonal mini updates that allow content to be more evenly dispersed throughout the year.
Here’s how you should set your expectations accordingly, each individual drop should be about 1/4th the content of the old singular updates.
Let’s look at the Spring drop, we’ve got new several mob variants, leafs and leaf particles, several new plants, a sound overhaul, new mob egg designs for every mob in the game, and fallen trees.
To be more specific on the mob variants and plants, 2 new cow, pig, and chicken variants, leaf litter, wildflowers, bushes which are tinted according to the biome they generate in, firefly bush, cactus flower, and short and tall dry grass.
That’s just 1 drop, if you extrapolate for 3 more drops by multiplying that amount of content by 4 and that should be roughly 2025’s content quantity. Which in my opinion seems like it’s going to be on parr with old updates.
The Summer drop is already looking good, vanilla shaders and Happy Ghasts alone would make it good, but it’s highly likely there will be more. And after that we still have two more drops, in Fall and Winter.
Listen, I’ve been complaining about the content drought for a while now, but from what I’m seeing, Mojang are finally getting back into a rhythm. They seem to have an actual plan now.
Let’s let them cook for 2025 and in December we can discuss if this new system was successful or not, we’ll see if all 4 drops taken together equal the amount and quality of content of older updates.
