There are so many people who say so much dumb shit about this game. I've seen comment sections of modded gameplay where you see hordes of zombies breaking blocks, dragons burning down villages, etc. And without fail I always see comments saying "This is what Minecraft could've/should've been if lazy Mojang got off their asses" , conversely I see people complain about the fact that "Mojang is ruining Minecraft! Minecraft is just supposed to be a sandbox game! all these dungeons/mobs/structures/bosses they're adding are ruining the game! All this Progression and goals don't belong!".
Every time I hear stuff like this I just facepalm so hard my skull falls out of its head. Survival Minecraft, at its core, is an action adventure Sandbox game with light RPG elements, heavy emphasis on that sandbox part. The world exists as your blank canvas so that you can explore, build and create whatever you please, but their exist challenges such as the fact that you actually have to actually go out and find the blocks you want to build with and the hostile mobs which serve to damper your time existing in the world. This plays right into the 'action adventure' aspect of the game, as well as its progression system, you're going to want to get better loot and equipment so that building can become easier, but also so you can fend off those pesky mobs that want to blow you up and kill you at all costs, and you're going to want to adventure to find the stuff you want to build with for whatever project you want to work on, and on the way you might find some cool structures you're going to want to pillage, not just because it's fun to go through them but because you can get better loot which makes building , surviving, and fighting easier. Then comes Minecraft's "goals" and "progression", what a lot of people don't understand is that the ender dragon (and to a lesser extent, the wither) aren't the end goal of Minecraft, you can play the game without ever stepping foot in the end or killing the ender dragon, ever, and you can (and most do) play the game after that bastards been dead for weeks. Killing the ender dragon just serves as a fun end goal for players to pursue if they want to and to motivate you to get better items and equipment to further engage with the sandbox, you fight and kill the ender dragon so you can get things like the elytra which is not only fun to use, but a massive help in traversal and building, and to do that you need to first explore and adventure in the end and find a city. Similarly, you kill the wither for a nether star, so you can get a beacon, one of the most useful items in the game. Not only does this further legitimize your progression, but it also plays into the survival-adventure aspect that pertains to the loop of survival Minecraft.
So to address the first group of people, do you really want a horde of monster destroying your builds you worked so hard to create and gather the materials for? Do you think most people would want that? And to the second group of people, you don't have to engage with any aspect of the game if you don't want to, Minecraft is a sandbox game, not a survival game, not an RPG, there is no end goal and it never forces you to do anything. If you really hate the "goals" and all the new stuff they're adding, just play an older version or just play creative lol. Say what you want about Mojang and the updates, I have lots of problems with them too, but if you're going to so aggressively misunderstand what the game is, and then say the game is bad because it's not what it isn't supposed to be, get your *** to curseforge to download some mods or shut up because you have no idea what you're talking about.
