Why are so many people starting to list “wood variants” as an example of a bad update?

I could’ve sworn that adding more wood colors was a highly requested mechanic? Weren’t the crimson and warped sets highly praise when they released for finally spicing up the wood pallet? Do people not want unique biomes?
