villager ranking (mostly talking about how underrated the butcher is)

at first i just wanted to make a post about how good the butcher is, but i decided to make a full villager ranking too. (i’m playing on bedrock if there’s any major differences between java and bedrock that i’m mentioning here)

  1. farmer: they have the two best trades in the game in my opinion, selling pumpkins and melons. the trades for wheat, beetroot, potatoes and carrots are fine other than the wheat trade and they sell bread and apples. i use the bread from farmers to breed more villagers and the apples from farmers to make golden apples to cure them. i understand why people love golden carrots so much but i’m pretty sure that another trade that i’ll get to later gives you much more food per emerald.

  2. butcher: the most underrated villagers by far. the beef and chicken trades are okay and while i myself don’t have an automatic kelp farm yet, i’m pretty sure that the dried kelp blocks would also be very good for emeralds. their best trades are (after being cured) one pork for an emerald, one mutton for an emerald and four sweet berries for an emerald. with a looting 3 sword pork and mutton are great and sweet berries are probably my third favorite trade in the game after melons and pumpkins. they also sell you 8 cooked chicken or even better 5 cooked porkchop for an emerald and i’m pretty sure both of those will last you longer than spending the same amount of emeralds on golden carrots even if you do have to eat more often.

  3. librarian: enchanted books, everyone knows this. i decided to put farmers and butchers above librarians because you’ll trade with them more often than you would with librarians but top 3 are pretty much equal.

  4. armorer: diamond armor is much more expensive than tools so that’s why i put him higher. also i have an iron farm and a lava farm so they’re both pretty good for emeralds.

  5. toolsmith: nothing to say here that would be different from the armorer

  6. fisherman: selling fish isn’t that good but not that bad either. he’s this high just for the boat trade.

  7. fletcher: mostly good for sticks but feathers are also nice. infinity on a bow is much better than mending so i don’t really buy anything from him.

  8. mason: clay is good but i like the stone trades more.

  9. shepherd: the wool trade is horrible but it’s okay early game. the dye trades are so good though, the best ones are brown dye from cocoa beans (very underrated trade) green dye from cacti (i don’t have a cactus farm myself but i’m sure it’s good), red dye from poppies from an iron farm and any dye that you can get from 2 tall flowers if you have a skeleton farm.

  10. weaponsmith: not as good as the other smiths because he has only one exclusive trade but still very important.

  11. cleric: gold and rotten flesh from a gold farm are very good and i don’t brew potions that often other than fire resistance for netherite mining so nether wart is a good extra trade too. buying ender pearls is also a pretty good trade.

  12. cartographer: the explorer maps are fun but he’s not as important as the other ones.

  13. wandering trader: there’s a few good things like saplings from biomes that you haven’t gone to but nothing too important. also free leads and leather if we’re counting things outside of the actual trades.

  14. leatherworker: now that the saddle is craftable they have no good trades and they also make the game worse for me since i had to move my lava farm so my new villagers wouldn’t become leatherworkers all the time.
