This seems to be something the community has disagreed with since they were introduced, with the main complaints being that they are too much work and give too little reward.
Here’s my response to that:
Too much work: on single player, sometimes you just get bored in a world after playing for a while. No one needs Netherite it’s seriously not important to any other aspect of gameplay in the slightest. It’s just a hard challenge like getting a mace or silence armor trim (1% chance of spawning only in ancient city chests). And I like bastions and think an incentive to explore the nether is cool. The template turned getting Netherite gear from a tedious exercise in strip mining to a challenge that encapsulates both mining and exploration. It’s ok for non essential features to require work.
Too little use for Netherite gear: first, like I said it’s just a fun challenge that you don’t need to do. Aside from that, it is objectively useful.
(1) I play on bedrock so no armor toughness and creative tests showed slightly less damage versus diamond armor with Netherite. Idk why but I think it might have more damage reduction even in bedrock.
(2) One of the biggest ways to lose high level diamond armor that is annoying to replace is falling into a lava ocean which eats durability so fast! Netherite is good insurance in your gear for long term survival worlds. Also I only play hardcore so idk how useful the dropped Netherite gear not being destroyed in lava is but I can imagine it’s good for long term worlds.
(3) Knockback resistance is objectively good as constant knockback is really annoying. Try fighting a skeleton with a punch now and you will know what I mean.
