Maybe an unpopular opinion but I actually like the recent updates with needing templates to upgrade your armor, it being harder to get enchantments and nerfing villager trades. In fact, I don't think they went hard enough?
Okay, Context, I'm a farm guy, I like making farms of stuff rather than working for it but I actually like the added difficulty..Though I think this is because of how hard these things are to get at a usable amount. I actually dislike how expIoity it feels at time because I know when it doesn't feel like that but you still manage those farms to work, it feels amazing. But.. the feeling when I realised Upgrade templates could simply be duplicated, I felt a certain part of my heart wither. I kinda wished I needed to work for every single one of them. And that made me realise there's something I wanted to say as much as I try not to.
Anyways, I know some people argued the addition of templates and making certain enchantments rarer are artificially adding play time between the start of the game and the end game BUT I ask you, recall the best parts when you play the game. It's probably, usually, the middle parts of the games. AND the very late part of the game where you have all the resources to make unique builds. I think, the reason why it feels artificial is because for we've gotten too used to late game.
This update didn't help with the very late part of the game BUT it did help with the middle. I'm looking through the more recent update plans of Minecraft and it seems like they're trying to get into the exploration part of the game and I wish the commit to it. I am hopeful.
The game has felt stale since forever. Although, I do understand the sentiment and hope they don't make new stuff and simply leave them to dust away like the rest. Instead, they make everything in the game kind of interact with each other, like redstone.
So that's what I think about the new updates and want to see what your guy's are. This is rambly but this is simply me pouring my heart out because I really like this game and it pains me that it I wish it could be better, rather than it simply being better.
...
The following are extra stuff I think they could add or work on that I think would be great. You don't need to read these to reply to my comment(Warning, it is a little more rambly):
1.a) Rework the the enchantment system into something akin to a Rune-Tree upgrade system so you can be excited for each upgrade in rarity. So you can have a connection to your gears and feel like you're actually progressing in game.
**Maybe more unique enchaments coming if you go this route
1.b) Make it so mending has many levels, Your weapon lasts longer because you can fix it up after every journey. Orrr make it last a little longer until you can fix it up if you follow the next idea
1.c) Make an alternative to fixing weapons, I.e. make fixing weapons with anvils actually viable, perhaps mending now serves as a slow durability healing while anvil helps with a huge fix and polishing. There's more to explore there.
1.d) Make an weapon upgrade system. This is a lil selfish dream of mine but I think it could make you be more attached to your weapon if you can keep the enchantments through each stage. Also, preferably this means you can theoretically have a sword that you had since you started the world, but you can just make an entirely new one. Would be cool if there's a point system which you can make it so your weapon is more durable, or cut harder, piercing, stuff like that.
Ending Note: I realise that the Mojang team is anxious with changing the game in any meaningful way and I understand that, "it's minecraft, a world famous game that everyone loves and it'd be a shame if uh oh we ruined it". And I do not have an answer for this hardhitting question, because the game means a different thing for everyone but I feel like waiting around wouldn't really change a thing and then it'll eventually get stale. I just think picking A choice, especially one I think they're doing now with exploration and stuff would lead it to become a more.. Minecraft product. The combat update was an ambitious attempt of doing it once upon a time, and I think that was a great effort even though it didn't really amount to much. Why? because isn't that the spirit of Minecraft? Explore. Make it your world.
ps. Big boats in Minecraft and big oceans would be so cool, I wanna get attacked by a kraken but that's definitely too much to add rn anyways, much love
also I don't know what tag to put this under, sorry.

- I think the reason why people dislike the rarity increase so much, including me, is because nothing else really matters other than max enchantment. Everything else is too lacking in power while the max is too powerful, I think they should balance that instead. Make the middle enchantment slightly more powerful or something like that. I think It'd be awesome for there to be the day I'm excited for a Protection II.

Exploration, I realised while exploring the nether is that it kind of sucked.. UNTIL you had an Elytra, If we there are more transportation system that felt extra but not necessarily OP.
This isn't a suggestion but just a problem I noticed. Late game, the reason why it gets stale so fast so hard is because the amount of things you need to do things is so much you basically need to make a farm. I think enchaments could help with this, especially with the upgrade system I suggested. Yeah maybe it could be too much at first if we make it a block drop half a stack but I don't think it'd be going to a necessarily wrong direction ( I picked a ridiculous idea yes but you get my point, we need alot of mats and there has to be a way to get them).
okay this is just me BUT why does the scaffolding have it's limits
isn't the entire point to replace dirt? I think if it were a non dropping block that breaks every part of it when you break the base it'd be perfect. I just don't think putting balancing here is the most appropriate timing when we have dirt that does the same thing and being cheaper.
