Thoughts on using black concrete as a way to mimic dark area

I wanted to add a gear on roof of my stone mason trading hall to show a way the mineshaft lift goes up and down but there is no space inside for the gear so i used black concrete in place of planks to give an illusion of gear going inside the roof.
