Spawn Rate Upped like crazy?

I have been playing in a server with my friends and the rate at which animals spawn is actually insane. I will be running along and all of a sudden 12 horse will spawn, or like 15 sheep. Yesterday while exploring I found 2 pink sheep. Does anyone know why this is happening?
