Powdered Snow is more Convenient than Water Bucket

People always say to "always bring a water bucket" in case you fall from steep heights. However, I suggest that bringing powdered snow is much more useful. Does not interact with waterloggable blocks: will place on top of these blocks instead of inside. which means more reaction time. Works in the Nether: self-explanatory. Using water in the nether is impossible. Water Buckets are useless IN lava: if you fall into a lava pit with poor gear, a water bucket will not save you unless you are a) able to get out and b) extinguish yourself (which powder snow also does, albeit it is consumed). More than likely any attempts to use the water to escape will leave you trapped in the obsidian/lava.
