If its like any other style, you'd need to install both the parent and the child style XML files.

Then you can edit and customize the child theme and update the parent one when the theme is officially updated.

That's a bummer. I'd recommend taking a look through the basic usage of XenForo 2 before you decide to use their CMS.

This might help you: It's just a case of uploading the files and importing an XML file in the Appearance > Styles section of your Admin CP.
