Are ancient cities really this rough to clear as a first time player or am I just terrible at the game?

So I've cleared my first ever ancient city and not gonna lie, maybe later it gets better, but I didn't enjoy it that much. The constant fear of accidentally triggering the Warden and then running away because I have no idea how to fight that thing, then coming back with carpets to try again once it despawned or went somewhere else, are not really that fun, for me at least.
But the worst thing is that it's HUGE and I constantly go lost, in the darkness and the massive area that serves as a maze I spent tremendously more time there than necessary simply because I had no clue about where to go at all. Sure, I enjoy exploration but this combined with the constant stress that the Warden gave me, well, I didn't really enjoy it at all.

Sorry if I'm just a whining little thing but I had to share this because I don't wanna feel bad for struggling this much. I swear this was scarier than a lot of the RE games that I've played or harder than some soulslike moments I've had in my life, lol. I'll probably get better at clearing these but huhh, I had a pulse over 120 for 2 hours at least while clearing it last night. Amen.

Well, that's it.
