Why is datapack/resource pack creation so poorly documented?

Java edition specifically

I've been dipping my toes into datapack and resource pack creation. Nothing fancy, just some custom item models and custom music disks. But one thing that annoys me so much is how hard it is to learn this stuff. Either I'm not looking in the right places, or there just isn't much documentation.

  • The Minecraft wiki has pretty good documentation on the structure of .json files, but has absolutely 0 explanation of how to use them.
  • There's a ton of tutorials on YouTube, but most are pretty basic, only showing some barebones to get very simple functionality.
  • Reverse engineering existing packs or the vanilla .jar files is also an option, but that just takes forever, especially with complicated packs that do more than 1 specific thing.
  • Misode has some useful generators, but even then you kinda already need to know what you're doing.

I'm surprised by how easy it is to make datapacks, yet how hard it is to learn to make them because of how little knowledge is shared.

Anyone got some good learning resources to share?
