Why does Minecraft have to be so difficult to operate?

I have 9yo son who is really into the game, its his favourite thing to do. He watches Youtube videos and sees other people modding the game, or setting up a server so they can play with friends etc and wants to do the same.

I try to help him, man how I try. I follow the instructions to the letter, but it practically always fails. It is so very frustrating.

A specific example from today, my son wanted to make this larger crafting table. He had a Youtube video on how to do it. I had to install a mod pack then run 4 commands. I installed the mod pack (and the game gave a warning that it was out of date) then I tried running the first command, but the game kept telling me.it expected a bracket here, then there, then somewhere else. It never actually worked. So frustrating.

Is this normal? Is it supposed to be this hard?
