Newer Minecraft is way more fun when you go into it blind

What do I mean by Newer Minecraft? Honestly anything from around the Ocean Update (which is already pretty old by now, but for a lot of people that is when the game goes from the familiar childhood era to the new we're-now-grownups era).

A lot of these updates I followed everything for. I watched trailers, checked out minecon panels, read patch notes, followed videos doing in-depth dives. And once I knew everything there was to know about Ocean temples, where to find them, new ocean biomes, all the new structures in them, the new caves and cliffs updates, all their possible biomes and discoveries, and so much more.... only then did I hop into Minecraft.

And it just felt weird. Suddenly I was in a new game. But I more or less had an idea of what the world looked like. I could go searching for a temple, but I already knew how to approach it and what I'd see when I get to it. Same with the deep dark and the warden and all that.

So every time I'd just hop off. Why play when I know everything?

Years after a lot of these updates, I ended up playing Minecraft with a friend for the first time, and he basically knew so little to nothing about it since the Ocean update. I forgot most of what I was told about the game too.

The result? An incredible game full of exploration, fascinating world generation, curious discoveries both deep in the ground, in the oceans, in the End and beyond. The world felt alive and mysterious like it did when I first played it again.

I made a vow to basically just not follow any Minecraft news from here on out. I'll check in on the game from time to time. And of course, I'll catch headlines and check for some hints. But I won't deep dive into eveyr news article, minecon panel and video analysis.

Minecraft's beauty is in its exploration and discovery, and preserving that by not delving too hard into Minecraft news is a great way to keep the game fun for you.
