 | The most popular theory for the phantom is that it's an undead manta ray, and honestly I was never sure about that theory given that manta rays as a mob don't exist. Now, if we look at the other ghostly mob, the Wraith (from Minecraft Dungeons) one can immediately tell it's the top half of a human. So I thought... what if the phantom is also only half of a creature? So I checked all the mobs it resembles and the turtle seems like the most likely candidate. Take away the hind flippers and the shell and it's almost the same creature. And yes, before you ask, turtles have a spine. Both of these mobs were also coincidentally added in the same update.
