Look, I get it. I grew up with Minecraft too. Those rainy days of booting up xbox 360 Minecraft and playing with my friends in splitscreen were some of the happiest of my life.
Minecraft's developers cannot make major changes to the game anymore because people often whine about how "it's not the same as it used to be", and they're concerned about keeping that "classic" feel. Trees can't change shape, terrain can't be too different, the progression can't be changed. It must remain the same as it did 10 years ago.
The problem with that is, updates aren't updates, and that's entirely at the fault of people who clutch onto their childhood memories too much and blame Mojang for "ruining" the game.
Worse still, even more people complain about how updates aren't big enough, when that is entirely their fault for giving Mojang the IMPOSSIBLE task of "updating the game loads" and "don't change ANYTHING".
I've even seen some people say "well I shouldn't have to play an older version. If you want big changes, just play modded", and I don't need to explain why that is completely and utterly asinine.
The solution is simple: play an older version. Stop telling Mojang that they can't do cool things because you don't want updates to actually update anything.
