Was out exploring and watching Netflix on the second monitor. Saw a desert temple so I hopped down and disarmed the pressure plate. In my hubris, I left the all-too-familiar TNT lying in wait beneath the ground. My spoiled, foolish, royal *** wanted to sort my full inventory into shulker boxes before grabbing the literal bombs that I stood on top of.
Something interesting happens on second monitor so I look away from the death trap that I unknowingly stand upon. Queue assassin creeper agent from the sky. Blows up but doesn't kill me so I'm not that worried.
Don't hear the TNT being set off. First layer goes off and pops my totem. Bit of a scare, but I'm in full netherite (and elytra) and have the sustain from the totem running.
Second layer of TNT goes off. Staring blankly at the screen, the realization sets in that my journey is ending.
I've played Hardcore for many many years now but this ̶i̶s̶ was my longest-running world, spawned all the way back in March of 2020, before anyone fully knew how big a deal COVID was going to be. Sometimes I die in HC and it's something random and stupid that there isn't much to learn from. I'm mostly just sad at how avoidable this death was. Just goes to show, no matter how old the world is, overconfidence is a quick and explosive killer.
It hasn't fully set in yet. I feel empty. I know I'm not the first or last, but I wanted to share my sadness.
I am going to bed now.
