I’m a Luddite mama of a 4yo who has watched a few Minecraft videos and is now very into the idea of playing. I have a few questions:
1) Is it appropriate for kids? Are there settings to help keep him safe? Is there like a chat feature? He can’t read yet but the idea of him chatting online makes me squeamish.
2) what type of setup would he need? PlayStation? Nintendo? Please be very specific- although I’m only 32, I know literally nothing about video games. I’ve let the boys play on an old PS2 from when my husband was a kid, but that’s about it.
And finally, 3) Is this am expensive venture?
Edit: holy cow guys! Thank you so much for ALL of the helpful info! A special thanks to the SEVERAL who took the time to explain Minecraft LI5. It is so appreciated! I wish I could reply to each of you, and I was trying, but I just can’t keep up!
To those advising me that 4yo’s shouldn’t be playing video games, screens rot brains etc etc- I hear you, sincerely I do. In a general sense I dont disagree for many families. Our family, however, spends almost all of our time outside, just by nature of our lifestyle. We probably spend 5-6hrs a day outside. The time that he spends watching this Minecraft stuff is very limited, and would continue to be so if he were to start playing. I don’t mean this in a derogatory way at all bc I love it, but my kid is the purest form of nerd. Not bc he’s had a screen in front him him 24/7, but because that is where his interests lie. He is also obsessed with legos, magnatiles, cutting up boxes to build things etc etc. This is an activity that is being approached thoughtfully. Thank you for warning me though!
