 | The whole 2x2 shaft functions as one giant ladder; you can't fall and can ascend/descend anywhere in the tube. Also, a 2-block-deep LadderTube™ will prevent fall damage from any height, useful in the nether where there's no water, and it's cheaper than honey blocks. A 3x3 tube also works if you want to be able to fall down the center, with the surrounding 8-block ring forming a literal tube of ladders around you. Just move away from the center to stop falling, or move into the center to drop. This does not cause fall damage the way scaffolding does (that shit has killed me several times). The tube scales up, increasing the size of the hole in the middle; at 5x5, a column covered in ladders can be built in the center, making the thing even MORE ladder-tubular.
