| | I couldn't get a good sense of scale while looking at the Grand Canyon on google earth, so I decided to make it in Minecraft with python and amulet. I figured this would be a good way to check out trails and hikes before doing them in real life. The elevation data is from 1/3 arcsec usgs. https://portal.opentopography.org/datasetMetadata?otCollectionID=OT.012021.4269.1 This gives 10m data which can then properly be scaled to the world. Then the water, trail and road data is added on top after. The whole world is massive (around 28000x13000 blocks), which captures from near Nevada all the way to Glen Canyon and took an entire day of computation time. submitted by /u/SqueakerZach76 [link] [comments] |
