How We Play Survival Minecraft With a 4 Year Old

I was just reading an old post where someone was asking for advice on how to introduce survival Minecraft to their 4 year old and a lot of people were discouraging them / saying it couldn't be done until they were like 7 or 8. So I thought maybe it might be helpful for other parents to know that it can be done and this is how we did it:

A little background: My husband and I have been playing the Integrated MC mod for awhile in survival while our daughter liked to play creative on her own world. But more and more she became interested in our game and wanted to play with us. The monsters on Integrated MC are even more difficult than regular Minecraft so we knew we'd have to come up with a plan for this to go smoothly.

So we built a wall around our settlement and we put in some child safety locks 😂 We had iron doors every so often in the wall but they had a lever on the left side of the block above the door so it couldn't be opened accidentally. Then we went through and put torches everywhere so no monsters would spawn inside the wall. We made our daughter a chest of different pink blocks and we let her build her house within the wall.

And she has loved it! She feeds flowers to the bees in our beehives, she feeds hay to the animals. We had a cat spawn within the wall and she got to tame it with fish. She even picks wheat from my farm and makes her own bread to eat. And she always reminds us to sleep so the "nightmares" don't get us. (That's what she calls the Phantoms)

We also put made some iron golems so that if something did spawn in the wall, they would take care of it. But she mostly just likes to walk them around on leads 😅

The wall gave her the courage to learn the mechanics of survival in a safe way and more and more she has gotten up the courage to go on little outings with her dad and I beyond the wall and see the monsters outside. But she also likes to hide in the wall and watch the monsters through the glass sometimes too.

Anyways, it seems like a silly simple solution but I wanted to just let other parents know that it is possible to play survival Minecraft with younger kids that are afraid of the monsters. But if they like creative, nothing wrong with that either. 😊
