Even More IPB to Xenforo Migration Questions

Just need a sanity check in moving from self-hosted IPB/IC to self-hosted Xenforo.

My IPB forum includes a gallery, so I'm assuming I need to buy the Media Gallery license as well. If purchased, does the importer work to move over the gallery content as well as forums and posts?
How is spam handling in Xenforo? IPB has a database they check that, until recently, has been very good. But a spammer gets through about twice a week now.
