Does anyone know how I can improve this bench?

I found a tutorial on how to build a benchiest benchy benchlike benched bench but I encountered an issue. See, if I make it so only the "neck" of the armor stands for the legs is out of the ground, the trapdoors kinda float in the air. But if I make it so the trapdoors are perfectly on the tops of the stands, the "body" parts of the stands come out of the ground.
