| Instead of land claimsor invulnerable builds, weve been experimenting with "block reinforcement" as a way to handle protection and conflic t (As opposed to more traditional claims systems such as Towny). Blocks can be reinforced using resources, making them take many repeated interactions to break rather than being unbreakable. Our goal was to let players build freely anywhere, while still making large-scale griefing difficult and risky. A few things this changed in practice:
Features like acid blocks exist, these are expensive blocks like gold, diamond, and netherite which when placed under a reinforced block, can destroy it by waiting a number of hours. Another feature called "Bastions" places an invisible field around itself when reinforced which will prevent players without permissions from placing or reinforcing blocks in its field. This effectively protects your cities from unwanted visitors. Bastions can be whittled down though, slowly over time by attempting to place blocks - so they aren't invulnerable. Not perfect, but it’s been interesting watching how player behavior shifts when security costs time instead of permissions. submitted by /u/Tylerrr93 [link] [comments] |
