Are you performing MySQL optimizations and if so how often?

My forum seems to get sluggish at times, not sure why. I don't typically do the MySQL optimize routine. Maybe I should, maybe I should schedule a job to do so? Are you performing any routine maintenance/optimizations to your database and if so, how often, and are you doing it manually or using some job to do it?
