Anyone just play Minecraft just to live in the world?

The game is fun, but lately when I start a new world, I just start up creative mode. I build a giant base and when I feel I'm good enough I switch off of creative but stick to peaceful survival mode. Anything I want to add to my base I'll just mine for it, no mob stress no hunger to worry about, just a place to exist. Anyone else do something similar?
