Alright, people, we need to talk about people accidentally deleting their worlds they’ve had forever. And how to prevent it.

I get it, mistakes happen. And if you only have one device, it makes it that much easier to make the mistake. But realistically, no one should be dealing with this issue. I’m gonna give some advice on how to bullet-proof your world for both bedrock and Java edition. If you’re on Bedrock edition, skip the first 3 paragraphs.

Java: this is simple. You’re on a computer. Once a day, create a copy of your world and set it off to the side. No minecraft world is so large that it can’t be saved 5 times. So starting now, you should have 5 back ups. Unless you’ve been on the same world for 12 years, this isn’t even remotely hard. And if you have, get a separate drive for back ups.

If you’re on windows, go to search and type: %appdata%>.minecraft>saves and boom. You’re in. Right click, copy. Paste it into a SEPARATE folder. I keep one on my desktop, and one on an external hard drive. Once a week, you should plug in an EXTERNAL hard drive (capitalized for a reason) and load your most recent back ups onto it. You shouldn’t need more than 5 for any reason, so just throw them in and even if your PC spontaneously explodes, you still have your minecraft world. Keep the external hard drive somewhere separate from your PC when you’re not using it for a back up. Again, you never know. Maybe your power supply goes bad and starts a fire, and before you can put it out, the whole desk was burned. This is why it needs to be separate.

If you’re on PC and follow these steps, come barring a total house fire, you WILL GUARANTEE your world forever. You can take it a step further with cloud storage. Before you say “but corruption”: that’s why you keep 5 back ups. They should each be 1 day apart. The external is a week out at most. You can go back and prevent whatever corrupted the world.

BEDROCK EDITION: unfortunately, this one is more complicated. Now, I played it on Xbox, so I know if you have more than 1 Xbox you can automatically download your world to the other Xbox without using Realms. However, if you don’t, you’re going to have to pay for a Realm. Yes, it sucks paying for a realm. But it’s worth $3 a month to me to ensure I keep my bedrock world forever. I paid for a realm and downloaded my world to 5 different devices, and I keep it on the realm. Between all these devices and the realm itself, I’ll always have it. And again, 5 back ups. There’s no reason to only run one single save file. There’s no reason to have less than 5. Just do it, make sure you’re copying your world daily. Bedrock edition makes copying your world VERY easy. It’s actually in the settings. Keep your 5 back ups and don’t ever risk it.

I hope this post helps some people and ensures they never accidentally delete a world.
