After almost a decade, I just beat the game for the first time

I first got into Minecraft nearly a decade ago. Always played solo as none of my friends ever played.

This game has always terrified me for some reason that I really can’t explain. I’d build a very ugly and basic house, get some diamond armor, maybe go to the nether but too afraid to explore, then get bored eventually and drop the game for a period of time. I’ve never been to The End. Never found a trial chamber, an ancient city or an ocean monument. Never had fully enchanted gear. Never even used an ender pearl. I can’t remember how many worlds I’ve created.

Now don’t think that I’m some boomer that never played anything. I have some rich gaming experience, with all kinds of genres (From competitive WoW, to Hollow Knight, Skyrim and all kinds of games in between), but this game just became my white whale.

This time around, something was different. Can’t really point out what but I just beat the game today (as in, I went to The End and killed the dragon). And it wasn’t even that hard. I have no idea what I was so afraid of. Granted, I went in heavily prepared with fully enchanted diamond gear and all the necessary items, even glass bottles to catch dragon breath.

This was such a surreal feeling, like I’ve completed a very long chapter. I feel like the game just opened up for me since I’m now on my very merry way to getting an Elytra.

That’s it. Just sharing.

Btw, it does worth noting that I set a setting to not lose my stuff when I die, which really took the edge off and might have been the reason I succeeded this time. There’s nothing I hate more in a game than being punished for wanting to explore more.

Anyway, if you got through my post, thanks for reading.
