Hi guys. Before anything else I want to state I love Minecraft and Mojang. Always have, always will. I have some opinions I want to share that I'd like to discuss with the sub and see what yall think. This is NOT a hostile post, I just think this will be interesting to discuss.
So here's the thing: their design philosophy of adding the bare minimum is weird to me. They're so focused on being so completely bug-free and not wanting to "oversaturate" minecraft's features that the updates can feel underwhleming. To quote a comment I saw on this sub, "They're so focused on being an 'everyone's game' thet their content devolves into a one-size-fits-all mush." Try to imagine Minecraft without the Nether. You can't, it's iconic. And here's something I stand by: modern-day Mojang would NEVER add the Nether. It's violent, sometimes gross, and is simply way too much content for them to make absolutely 100% squeaky clean with no bugs or bad decisions or anything. Why take risk when you can play it safe right?
There's a reason countless people (myself included) feel like they have to play with mods to really enioy the game anymore. And that's cause some of us have been playing for 12+ years. Biomes o plenty, the aether, twigs, etc are mods that shouldn't have to be modded in. These are mods that (while adding a ton of content) feel incredibly vanilla. That's the kind of change I want to see in mc updates, and the kind we really aren't going to ever get.
To cap off, I want to reiterate: I love Minecraft and I love Mojang. But man do I sometimes miss the days where they would take more exciting risks with their updates.
TLDR: Mojang is obsessed with playing it safe in their updates, and it makes me miss the days where they'd be a bit more bold with their content.
