Artist's Description:
The City of Rockford is a fictional city, made as realistic as possible, located in Maine, United States. Transport yourself back in time to December of 1956, explore farms, interiors, houses, apartment buildings, forests, lakes, and caves, all in one map! In the world you'll be able to look through interiors of buildings typical for its era, every little detail considered carefully, with the highest historical accuracy, and real historical maps and pictures as references. As it's Christmas, the city is filled with decorations, lighting, at night it becomes alive, you wouldn't want to miss that
Process:
The process took me around a year, because at first when I started in 2020, I wanted to release a significantly smaller in scale version of this city before Christmas 2021, but I failed and decided to take the time to make a proper map, the way I always want my worlds to be, and release it on Christmas of 2021, and that, I did
At first, I wanted to build an existing part of the city, and in my case, I chose Decorah in Iowa. But as I began building more and more blocks, I noticed that I don't like what I'm seeing on google maps, so then decided to create what I want to see myself, yet still keep major roads and intersections the same as in real life, though again, 80% of the map was designed by me. So planning took the most time, deciding what building to put where and stuff like this, what colors to choose, sizes and scales, as I want to keep it only 1:1 scale.
As for the natural surroundings, I decided to go only with World Edit, because here, in this case, I will be able to plan and see the change right away then and there, directly interacting with it, unlike other world editors. So for this, I had to choose different techniques that World Edit provides, for natural grass landscape it was /br cyl 2 5 1, and for the trees, I used the clipboard brush for it /br clipboard -ao, here "-ao" means, that the tree will spawn on the exact block that your wand is pointing at, and the second letter means that it won't paste air with it as well. If you want more details and techniques on how I build all this, and how I do interiors in a 1:1 scale, contact me
Important:
- most buildings do exist in real life, though located in different cities all across the whole northern part of the United States.
- the map basically is a merge of different cities in Iowa, New York, Philadelphia.
- some houses are furnished fully, and all of them are different in their own way, make sure to find and live in every one of em
- every house on the map is unique, each place is different, you will never find just a copy-pasted house.
